Search the Legal Aid Agency’s own directory of offices with a legal aid family or mediation contract. Your search stays in your browser.

The official route: the Ministry of Justice’s Find a Legal Aid Adviser or Family Mediator uses the same underlying data and also asks about your problem and finances [MoJ]. Our finder is a simpler, faster view of the published directory.

Privacy: postcode search works entirely in your browser using a local copy of the data — your postcode isn’t sent to us or anyone else, and isn’t saved or added to the web address.

Before you call

  • Ask if they’re taking new legal aid clients for your type of case. A “Family” contract covers all family work — including care cases — and not every office does private family law (divorce, children and money after separation).
  • Have ready: proof of benefits or income, details of savings, and any evidence of domestic abuse or child protection concerns.
  • Distances are approximate (straight line, from the centre of your postcode area) — check the address.
  • Not listed? The directory is published monthly; offices open, close and change contracts. If a number doesn’t work, try the official finder or Civil Legal Advice.

Listings come from the Legal Aid Agency’s Directory of legal aid providers [LAA] — the spreadsheet dated 15 September 2026 — filtered to offices with a Family or Mediation civil contract (1,522 family and 91 mediation offices from 913 organisations). Postcode locations come from Ordnance Survey Code-Point Open [OS]. Both are Open Government Licence data. We don’t add, remove, rank or charge for listings; results are ordered by distance only. Inclusion is not a recommendation.
